Depending on the degree of pressure and temperature, streaks and patterns are formed in the quartz crystals, giving it its characteristic appearance. Pure quartzite is usually white or gray in color. However, many a time, impurities such as deposits of iron, carbon, clay and other minerals get included in the mixture giving the quartzite different colors such as red, pink, orange, blue, etc.
Both quartz and quartzite are used to make premium, designer kitchen countertops. Both stronger than granite and have a natural beauty at par with that of marble and other exotic stone surfaces.
When you have a contemporary kitchen decoration with white or beige cabinetry and black granite countertops, the best thing would be to opt for iron corbels. Metal corbels look perfect when they are paired with a light colored background.
When acidic solutions used as ingredients in daily cooking, like orange juice, lemon juice, wine, coffee, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, etc., are brought in contact with the granite countertop, the surface can become dull or even etched. The expensive granite you invested in, can lose its sparkle and shine. As far as possible, to minimize the damage, clean spills right away.
Though granite countertops can withstand tons of abuse, its surface can get chipped if steaming hot pots and pans are placed directly onto the granite. This is because the hard granite stones comprises some soft, thin strips of granite, which cannot absorb all the heat applied to its surface. Thus, one must be careful to place hot dishes on trivets and hot pads.
Wooden, metal, marble, and polyurethane are most sought after when it comes to durability and strong support for granite countertops as well as kitchen islands. Selection of the best type of corbels for your countertops depends upon the kitchen decoration theme as well as the colors of the countertops. Granite is available in colors like black, white, red, green, and blue.
