Now, stationary islands are the best solution if your kitchen offers a larger space. This means that you can get in a full-sized island that perfectly works as a dining table as well. All you need is a nice glass or granite countertop and pendant lights suspended from the ceiling right above this breakfast bar. Of course adding up the dining essentials to the countertop needs no mention. Now line up the chairs and get set to enjoy your food right here! A style having half part dedicated for dining and half for other work also works well. In this case the dining corner can have an empty base that offers enough leg room while you sit on stools and dine here. Only the other half of the island can have drawers and shelves below it.
For small kitchens, you can go in for foldable sides. The size of the upper surface can be easily reduced. These type of islands are usually made up of wood, with some variants made of plastic. The countertops of such islands are not made up of stone, as the weight may spoil the folding mechanism of the table top.
This is one of the best options for maximum utilization of resources. It allows sufficient amount of leg space and ease to sit down and dine. The table is of the level of a dining table. If you have limited resources, use a farm table as a breakfast bar. This arrangement, however, will not provide space for cooking. Once you are done with having your food, the table can be used for cooking. A homely and inviting look is imparted to the kitchen.
The L-shaped island is an extension of your kitchen cabinet. You will need to plan this piece of extension while building the cabinet itself. These cannot be incorporated later on. Also, they are not mobile. This island uses minimum space, with the breakfast bar attached to the rest of the cabinet. This makes the room look spacious.
Today kitchen islands have become a popular element of kitchen furniture. While the simple and basic islands are still preferred by many, you will get to see pieces offering much more than that extra countertop in your cooking space. A countertop is definitely an important part of the cooking area. Browse through the images and you are sure to love the designs. These multifunctional islands can be further designed according to your taste and can be ordered to rightly fit in your kitchen and taste of style. So here are some design ideas on the same which you can consider opting for.
The first thing to consider is the area available for the installation. Start by measuring your kitchen. While doing this, don‘t count the total area, measure only the available free space. This means excluding your counter, appliances like the fridge, furniture such as the cabinets, and any other items occupying the floor area. Now, you have to fit the island in this area, accordingly opt for the size. Always remember that you need to keep enough space to move around the island.
