If you have a small kitchen, go with a monochromatic light-colored theme, like whites or off-whites. If you have a medium or large-sized kitchen, then color themes like lavender-white walls with black appliances look great. You can also go with aqua blue and white walls with white appliances. Ceiling loft lights look great, and use soft colored towels in kitchens. You can also consider painting cabinets to match the appliances color.
No kitchen remodeling is complete until you replace your old kitchen countertop with new ones. Choose inexpensive countertop material like laminate and tile instead of costly countertop materials like solid stone slab and quartz surfacing countertop. You can also choose ceramic tile countertop as they are inexpensive and comes in a variety of styles and designs. However, they are very time-consuming to install. Laminate countertops are one of the cheapest option and they are durable and available in a wide range of patterns and textures.
One good idea is that you must have 75% of the kitchen painted in the main color and 25% of it in a shade used to neutralize the effect, while you want to have a lively effect. For example, in case of schemes where you have black, it must cover at least 75% of the kitchen. This is essential to get the perfect feel. In case you are creating a calming effect, you can have the two shades in equal percentage. This way you can use same combination to create different effects. Like a combo of magenta and off white, violet spanning 75% of the kitchen and off-white spanning the rest will give a flashy look to the area. Same colors used in an equal ratio will give you a considerably cool effect. While you work on this, you should also consider the aforementioned elements like the cabinets, dining table, and wall tiles to have the desired effect.
There are basically two designs in which the kitchen can be laid out. The first is called the ’classic triangle design’ and the second is ’zone centered design’. The classic triangle design was proposed way back in 1950s, hence has become somewhat obsolete now. It revolves around three stations, the range, refrigerator, and the kitchen sink. The placement of these stations often results in a triangle, referred to as ’work triangle’. The idea behind this design is to arrange the three stations in such a way that the working area in the kitchen is optimized. Ideally, the space at the center of the triangle should be free, thus, you will have to place kitchen island out of this triangle. If you place the island at the center, you will have to do a lot of extra walking, moreover, taking a detour around the island can be quite tedious with hands full of dishes or pots and pans. Occasionally, it is alright to overlap the island along the edge of the triangle.
Choosing paints depends on the mood you want to create in this area. For this, the homemaker’s choice should be given priority, as she will be using this area the most. For a calming effect, you need to consider cool shades and for a lively effect, go for the bold shades. You can use colors like yellow, off-white, beige, cool shades of red, pale blue or green, etc., to paint the walls. Color schemes can consist of dual tone walls with one of the above colors paired with off-white or white. Chocolate brown and beige also make a great looking scheme. For a lively effect, use gaudy colors like hot red, bright pink, violet, magenta, chocolate, orange, and black. For a jazzy look you can consider combos like hot red and gray, black and violet or magenta, orange and black, or black and a hint of bright green.
Bright colors are used in a Mexican kitchen. Use warm colors like red, orange and yellow on the walls. For the countertop, different colored painted tiles look great. You can go with mosaic tiles also. Terracotta floor tiles add a warm and traditional Mexican kitchen look, and are easy to care for. Iron hardware on painted wooden furniture will add a nice rustic look. You can add some wrought iron chairs. Copper sink, with copper stove hoods will lighten the room and add to the ambiance. Hang some baskets and place them on table with some decorative food items, to complete the look.
