A kitchen is the busiest area in house, always bustling with activities. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most cluttered and space challenged areas in the house. The cabinets, counter tops, shelves, pots, and pans, and a range of kitchen appliances crumpled together in a small space makes cooking a daunting task. However, if you apply some architectural principles to your kitchen and effectively utilize the available space, you can turn this daunting task into a pleasurable experience.
A U-shaped kitchen is best suited for large kitchens as the arrangement stretches along the three walls of the kitchen. It can easily allow multiple cooks to work independently without bothering each other.
Choosing paints depends on the mood you want to create in this area. For this, the homemaker’s choice should be given priority, as she will be using this area the most. For a calming effect, you need to consider cool shades and for a lively effect, go for the bold shades. You can use colors like yellow, off-white, beige, cool shades of red, pale blue or green, etc., to paint the walls. Color schemes can consist of dual tone walls with one of the above colors paired with off-white or white. Chocolate brown and beige also make a great looking scheme. For a lively effect, use gaudy colors like hot red, bright pink, violet, magenta, chocolate, orange, and black. For a jazzy look you can consider combos like hot red and gray, black and violet or magenta, orange and black, or black and a hint of bright green.
If you wish to give a touch of modern decor to the kitchen cabinets then certain color combinations like these would be useful. One of the most popular combinations these days is that of black cabinets with deep red walls. You can also have dark red kitchen cabinets with white walls. To give your kitchen a natural-Zen look, consider going with fresh green walls with some white wall designs and dark black or dark brown cabinets. White walls with some dark painted cabinets also look modern and give a very different look to the kitchen. White goes with deep blue, deep green, and deep red cabinets. Another way to make your kitchen look modern is to paint the kitchen walls in turquoise blue or lavender colors.
There are certain colors which can stand out and make the cabinets look less prominent. These are mostly bright colors. These colors need to be selected wisely, otherwise they can look too loud. The best is to go with medium or medium-light shades of such color. Some of the colors which will make the wall look more prominent than the kitchen are sunshine yellow, bright green, orange, red, and turquoise blue.
If you have a small kitchen, go with a monochromatic light-colored theme, like whites or off-whites. If you have a medium or large-sized kitchen, then color themes like lavender-white walls with black appliances look great. You can also go with aqua blue and white walls with white appliances. Ceiling loft lights look great, and use soft colored towels in kitchens. You can also consider painting cabinets to match the appliances color.
